Work was due to begin in April 2007 on a new water main is to be laid from Jarvis brook to Cottage Hill Rotherfield, this will pass through Owlsbury Farm and cross the Hadlow Down Road (C11) between Owlsbury Deport and Owlsbury Farm. The agents informed me today (28/03/2007) that work will be delayed as they are dealing with various environmental matters including the possibility of Greater Crested Newts in the area which means a license will be needed before work commences, however work to take out hedges and replace with fences on the route was started on April 11th, this is supposed to be so that work can commence when then are ready rather than have to wait till the birds have finished nesting. I think that they have left this a bit late as I have seen 2 nests with eggs in already, although the eggs were not being sat on yet.

Following official trapping on 16/04/2007 Palmate, Smooth and Great Crested newts were found on this farm, which means a license will be needed from Nature England, this came though on June 29th.

Work on mains started 09/07/2007 at Cottage Hill. The work is on schedule, and is now completed.

A newt pond was constructed here on October 18th 2007 and by April 2008 the newts had move in by themselves. If you click here you can see the press release.
